Terms of Use
Using this website and its research.
In short
- You may read, cite and share our work for non-commercial purposes, with attribution.
- Our analysis is research, not legal, financial, electoral or professional advice.
- Public data shown here remains subject to its original source's terms, which we credit below.
- Please don't scrape the site in bulk or misrepresent our findings.
1. About these terms
These terms apply to your use of this website, operated by Polity Lab ([full registered legal name], [registered address]). By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. Our Privacy Notice explains how we handle personal data.
2. Our content and how you may use it
Unless stated otherwise, the text, analysis, charts, maps, visual design and the Polity Lab name and logo are owned by Polity Lab or used under licence.
You may view, download and print pages for personal reference, and you may quote, cite or share our text, charts and maps for non-commercial research, teaching, journalism and public-interest purposes, provided that you:
- credit "Polity Lab" and link to the page you used;
- do not alter a chart or map so as to change its meaning, and say when you have adapted it;
- keep the original data-source credits shown with it.
For any commercial use, republication in full, or use in campaign or advertising material, please ask us first at hello@politylab.org. The Polity Lab name and logo may not be used in a way that suggests endorsement or affiliation.
3. Third-party data and attribution
Much of our analysis is built from official and open public sources, which remain subject to their own terms. Credits appear beside each chart and map. In particular:
- Election results: published results of the Election Commission of India and the Electoral Commission of Uganda.
- Road networks and habitations: © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL).
- World and country outlines: Natural Earth (public domain).
- Boundaries of India: any external boundary of India shown on this site follows the outline published by the Survey of India and carries its required notice.
Where a boundary appears on a map outside India, it is shown for analytical purposes only and does not imply any opinion on the legal status of any territory.
4. Research, not advice
Our publications are independent analysis based on the evidence available when they were written. They describe patterns and uncertainty; they are not predictions, guarantees, or legal, financial, investment, electoral or other professional advice. Decisions you take on the basis of our material are your responsibility. Where we use illustrative imagery generated with AI tools, it is labelled as such and does not depict real people, places or events.
We work to keep the site accurate, but public datasets contain errors and change over time. If you find a mistake, tell us and we will correct it.
5. Independence and neutrality
Polity Lab does not endorse any candidate, party or campaign. Publication of an analysis on this site is not an endorsement of anyone mentioned in it. Commissioned work, where it exists, is identified as such.
6. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use automated tools to scrape, harvest or bulk-download the site or its data files, other than by ordinary search-engine indexing;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its server or any connected system, or interfere with its operation;
- use our content to mislead, to impersonate Polity Lab, or to target, intimidate or profile individual voters;
- use the site in breach of any applicable law.
7. Links to other websites
We link to official sources and to our pages on LinkedIn, Facebook and X. We are not responsible for the content or practices of those sites.
8. Availability and liability
The site is provided free of charge and "as is". We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it without notice.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Polity Lab is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, data or opportunity, arising from your use of the site or reliance on its content. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud, and nothing affects the mandatory rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at [city] have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another country whose law gives you the right to bring proceedings at home, you keep that right and the protection of your local mandatory law.
10. Changes and contact
We may update these terms and will change the "last updated" date when we do. Questions about these terms: hello@politylab.org.
